The Teams recording problem

Why most users cannot record Teams natively

Microsoft Teams recording has several hard dependencies. To record a meeting, the Teams admin must enable recording in the tenant's meeting policy. The user needs a qualifying Microsoft 365 license (Microsoft 365 Business Basic does not include cloud recording in all configurations). Recordings store in OneDrive or SharePoint, with retention governed by whatever compliance policy the IT team has set. If the admin has locked recording to organizers only, or if you are joining a meeting in a different tenant as a guest, you cannot start a recording at all. RecordMeeting bypasses all of this by recording from your Chrome browser tab, with no interaction with Teams admin policies.

  • No license requirement beyond a Teams account to join
  • Works regardless of the host tenant's recording policy
  • Guest accounts in external tenants fully supported

Notes ready after every Teams call

Transcript, summary and action items

Every Teams meeting recorded with RecordMeeting produces a searchable transcript with speaker labels, a structured summary and a list of action items extracted from the transcript. The output is in your workspace within minutes of the call ending. Speaker names are matched to the meeting invite participants automatically. You can search across every recorded Teams call from a single bar.

  • Searchable transcript with speaker attribution
  • Structured summary with key decisions
  • Action items with owner context from the transcript

Cross-tenant and guest scenarios

Recording Teams meetings you did not organize

A common pain point: you are a consultant or vendor joining a client's Teams meeting. The client's tenant has recording locked to organizers. You cannot start a recording from inside Teams. RecordMeeting records from your own browser tab, so the host tenant's policy is irrelevant. You get the full transcript and notes for the call regardless of who organized it or what the admin settings are on the other side.

  • Works when joining external tenant meetings as a guest
  • No dependency on the host organization's IT policy
  • Your notes stay in your workspace, not the client's Teams storage

Microsoft Copilot vs RecordMeeting

What native Teams AI does and does not cover

Microsoft Copilot for Teams (as of 2026) is part of the Microsoft 365 Copilot license, which runs separately from standard Microsoft 365 plans. It provides meeting summaries and transcription inside Teams, but requires that feature to be enabled by the tenant admin and the user to hold a Copilot license. If recording or transcription is disabled by policy in your tenant, Copilot in meetings will not run either. RecordMeeting does not require any Microsoft license beyond a Teams account to join the meeting, and it stores notes in a separate workspace outside the Teams ecosystem.

  • No Microsoft 365 Copilot license required
  • Works even when tenant policy disables recording
  • Notes stored in RecordMeeting, not Teams or OneDrive

Testimonials

Loved by teams who never want to miss a meeting

Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Chrome Web Store

"I use it for Google Meet calls - super convenient: one click and the meeting is recorded, and afterwards you automatically get a transcript in a Google Doc with speaker labels and timestamps. A big plus for privacy: it doesn’t add any “bots” to the participant list, everything stays clean and professional. Search across meetings and 2×/3× playback are must-haves to quickly pull out decisions and action items. A real lifesaver for work, highly recommend!"
