Record Zoom meetings without a paid plan or host permission

Zoom locks cloud recording behind paid accounts and restricts it to hosts. RecordMeeting captures your Zoom calls from the browser, transcript included, on any account.

Private workspace, no bots

Nothing extra appears in the call. Recordings stay in your own workspace.

The problem

Why recording Zoom is harder than it should be

Cloud recording requires a paid Zoom plan

Zoom's built-in cloud recording is only available on Pro, Business, and Enterprise accounts. Free tier users get local recording only, and that option disappears entirely if the host disables it.

Only the host can start recording by default

Participants cannot record unless the host explicitly grants recording permission inside the meeting. If you join a call you did not organize, you have no recording option at all.

The 40-minute limit on free Zoom cuts calls short

Free Zoom accounts disconnect group meetings after 40 minutes. You may rejoin the same call, but each session is a separate recording segment, making it hard to follow a complete conversation.

Cloud recordings are locked inside Zoom's storage

Zoom Cloud stores recordings in its own ecosystem. Downloads require extra steps, sharing is link-based but controlled by Zoom's settings, and deleted recordings can be difficult to recover.

How it works

RecordMeeting on Zoom

RecordMeeting records Zoom calls directly from a Chrome browser tab. Open the Zoom meeting link in Chrome, join via the web client, and click record. No host permission needed, no paid Zoom plan required. The recording captures audio and video from your tab, then uploads to your private RecordMeeting workspace alongside a full transcript with speaker labels and an AI summary. Works on free Zoom accounts and for any participant in any meeting.

1

Open in Chrome

Open the Zoom meeting link in Chrome with RecordMeeting installed.

2

Click record

Start recording from the extension. The call is captured from your browser tab.

3

Get the transcript

After the call, your recording and full transcript land in your workspace.

Use cases

Who records Zoom calls with RecordMeeting

Sales demos on Zoom

Record every prospect demo without asking the host for permission. Review the full transcript with your team, search for objections, and coach based on what was actually said.

Hiring interviews

Candidates often join Zoom interviews on free accounts. Record the conversation, share it with the hiring panel, and compare candidate answers across rounds from the transcript.

Client onboarding calls

Keep a permanent record of every onboarding session. When a client asks what was agreed six months ago, find the answer in the transcript instead of relying on notes.

Team standups across time zones

Async teammates who miss the standup skim the transcript in two minutes instead of replaying the full recording. Action items surface automatically in the AI summary.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Chrome Web Store

"I use it for Google Meet calls - super convenient: one click and the meeting is recorded, and afterwards you automatically get a transcript in a Google Doc with speaker labels and timestamps. A big plus for privacy: it doesn’t add any “bots” to the participant list, everything stays clean and professional. Search across meetings and 2×/3× playback are must-haves to quickly pull out decisions and action items. A real lifesaver for work, highly recommend!"

FAQ

Questions about recording Zoom

Common questions from people who use RecordMeeting on Zoom.

Do I need a paid Zoom plan to use RecordMeeting?
No. RecordMeeting records Zoom calls from your browser tab, independent of Zoom's built-in recording feature. A free Zoom account is enough. You join via the Zoom web client in Chrome instead of the Zoom desktop app.
No. RecordMeeting captures the call from your own browser tab, so host recording settings do not apply. You record your own copy of the meeting without touching Zoom's built-in controls.
Zoom local recording saves a file on your computer. Cloud recording uploads to Zoom's servers but requires a paid plan. RecordMeeting uploads recordings to your private workspace at recordmeeting.com, separate from both options.
RecordMeeting is a Chrome extension that records from browser tabs. To use it with Zoom, open the meeting link in Chrome and select the browser option (Zoom web client) when prompted. The desktop app does not run inside Chrome.
The 40-minute limit is a Zoom restriction on meeting length, not on recording. If a group meeting ends at 40 minutes and you rejoin, each session produces a separate RecordMeeting recording. You can replay them in sequence in your workspace.
Transcript accuracy is typically above 95% for clear English audio. RecordMeeting supports 50+ languages with automatic language detection. Speaker labels are matched to meeting participants.
Recordings are stored in your private RecordMeeting workspace, not in Zoom Cloud. They are encrypted in transit and at rest. You can download, share with a link, or delete any recording at any time.
