Why recording Zoom is harder than it should be
Cloud recording requires a paid Zoom plan
Zoom's built-in cloud recording is only available on Pro, Business, and Enterprise accounts. Free tier users get local recording only, and that option disappears entirely if the host disables it.
Only the host can start recording by default
Participants cannot record unless the host explicitly grants recording permission inside the meeting. If you join a call you did not organize, you have no recording option at all.
The 40-minute limit on free Zoom cuts calls short
Free Zoom accounts disconnect group meetings after 40 minutes. You may rejoin the same call, but each session is a separate recording segment, making it hard to follow a complete conversation.
Cloud recordings are locked inside Zoom's storage
