The problem
Why recording Microsoft Teams is harder than it should be
Only the meeting organizer or specific roles can record
Microsoft Teams restricts recording to meeting organizers and co-organizers by default. Attendees, guests from external tenants, and participants without the right Teams license cannot start a recording from within the platform.
Recording is controlled by tenant admin policies
Your organization's IT admin can disable recording entirely via Teams admin policies. Even if you have a paid license, a policy set at the tenant level can prevent recording with no override available to regular users.
Guests from other tenants are often blocked
