The problem

Why recording Webex is harder than it should be

Recording is controlled by the host and site admin

In Webex, recording is a privilege granted by the host or configured at the site administration level. Attendees cannot record unless explicitly permitted. If the host forgets to enable it, the option simply does not appear.

Corporate Webex sites enforce strict recording policies

Enterprise Webex deployments managed by IT often restrict recording to prevent data leakage. These policies apply at the site level, meaning even licensed Webex users cannot record if the admin has locked it down.

Recordings default to NBR format, not MP4

Webex network-based recordings (NBR) are stored in Cisco's own format. Converting them to a shareable MP4 requires additional steps through the Webex portal, which is only available to account holders with the right permissions.

Recordings live inside Webex's infrastructure

Recordings stored in Webex are tied to your organization's Cisco account. When an account expires or is deprovisioned, access to recordings may be lost. External guests have no access to their side of the conversation.

How it works

RecordMeeting on Webex

RecordMeeting attaches to Webex meetings open in a Chrome browser tab and records from there. You do not need host privileges, a Webex license, or site admin approval. Open the Webex meeting link in Chrome, start the extension, and your call is captured. The recording uploads to your RecordMeeting workspace as a standard MP4 with a searchable transcript, speaker labels, and an AI summary ready within minutes of the call ending.

1

Open in Chrome

Open the Webex meeting link in Chrome with RecordMeeting installed.

2

Click record

Start recording from the extension. The call is captured from your browser tab.

3

Get the transcript

After the call, your recording and full transcript land in your workspace.

Use cases

Who records Webex calls with RecordMeeting

External participants in corporate Webex meetings

Join a partner or vendor Webex meeting as an external attendee and still capture the conversation. Your recording stays in your own workspace, outside the host organization's Webex infrastructure.

Account management and QBRs

Record quarterly business reviews and account calls on Webex. Bring the transcript back to your team, tag key moments, and share a clean summary with stakeholders who were not in the room.

Teams working across Webex and other platforms

Many organizations run Webex for internal calls and Google Meet or Zoom for external ones. RecordMeeting works across all three from the same Chrome extension, so the recording workflow is the same regardless of which platform the meeting is on.

Training sessions and demos

Record Webex training calls and product demos for participants who could not attend live. Share the recording with a link and let the transcript serve as the written version.

Testimonials

Loved by teams who never want to miss a meeting

Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Chrome Web Store

"I use it for Google Meet calls - super convenient: one click and the meeting is recorded, and afterwards you automatically get a transcript in a Google Doc with speaker labels and timestamps. A big plus for privacy: it doesn’t add any “bots” to the participant list, everything stays clean and professional. Search across meetings and 2×/3× playback are must-haves to quickly pull out decisions and action items. A real lifesaver for work, highly recommend!"
