Google Meet transcript

Google Meet transcript on any account

Google's native transcription requires a paid Workspace plan and admin enablement. RecordMeeting generates a transcript from every Google Meet call you record, on any account, in any language.

No Workspace plan required

Works on free Gmail accounts and guest accounts. Independent of admin policy or Workspace tier.

50+ languages, auto-detected

Beyond Google Meet's supported language list. No need to select a language before each call.

Search across every Meet

Find any spoken word across your full call history from a single search bar.

Why this works without Workspace

Browser-based, no license dependency

Google Meet's built-in transcription is locked to Business Standard and higher plans (as of 2026). It also requires an admin to enable the feature and only runs on supported languages. RecordMeeting captures the call directly in your browser tab. The transcript is produced from that recording with no dependency on the Workspace transcription license, your organization's admin settings, or which Meet plan your account is on.

  • Free Gmail accounts supported
  • Guest accounts and external invitees supported
  • No admin enablement or Workspace plan required
Browser-based, no license dependency

What's in the transcript

Speakers, timestamps and click-to-navigate

Each transcript line is attributed to the speaker and stamped with the time in the recording. Click any line to jump directly to that moment in the video. The search bar works across every recorded Meet call, so you can find a specific quote from a call three months ago in seconds. Speaker names are matched to your Google Calendar invitees automatically.

  • Speaker labels matched to invitees
  • Click any line to jump to that moment in the recording
  • Cross-meeting search across your full call history

Export formats

TXT, DOCX and SRT for every use case

Different workflows need different formats. Plain text (TXT) works best when you want to paste into a doc, feed into an LLM or share as a raw file. DOCX exports open directly in Word or Google Docs with paragraph breaks and speaker labels preserved, which is useful for legal or compliance review. SRT files include timecodes in the subtitle format, so you can attach them to the recording video for captioning or upload them to a video platform.

  • TXT: paste into any tool, clean and minimal
  • DOCX: structured with speaker labels, ready for review
  • SRT: timecoded subtitles for video platforms

Live captions vs full transcript

What Google Meet captions cannot do

Google Meet's live captions show spoken text in real time during the call. They disappear when the meeting ends. There is no archive, no speaker attribution on the saved file, and no way to search across past calls. The native Workspace transcription saves a Google Doc to Drive after the call, but it is limited to specific plans and languages, and the doc lives in Drive rather than a searchable meeting workspace. RecordMeeting's transcript covers all accounts, persists permanently, and integrates with the recording and summary.

  • Live captions vanish when the call ends
  • Native Workspace transcription needs Business Standard or higher
  • RecordMeeting transcripts are permanent and searchable

Testimonials

Loved by teams who never want to miss a meeting

Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Chrome Web Store

"I use it for Google Meet calls - super convenient: one click and the meeting is recorded, and afterwards you automatically get a transcript in a Google Doc with speaker labels and timestamps. A big plus for privacy: it doesn’t add any “bots” to the participant list, everything stays clean and professional. Search across meetings and 2×/3× playback are must-haves to quickly pull out decisions and action items. A real lifesaver for work, highly recommend!"

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about RecordMeeting.

Does getting a Google Meet transcript require a paid Workspace plan?
Not with RecordMeeting. Google's native transcription requires Business Standard or higher (as of 2026) plus admin enablement. RecordMeeting records from your browser and generates the transcript independently of your Workspace plan, so it works on free Gmail accounts too.
Live captions show text during the call but are not saved after the meeting ends. RecordMeeting produces a permanent, searchable transcript that persists in your workspace, with speaker attribution and timestamps. You can come back to it days or weeks later.
Most transcripts are ready within five to ten minutes after the call ends. The extension uploads the recording automatically when the call finishes, and transcription runs in the background.
Yes. You can re-map speaker labels if a name was incorrectly attributed, and fix individual word typos directly in the in-app viewer. Edits save automatically.
TXT, DOCX and SRT on every plan. TXT is plain text suitable for pasting or processing. DOCX includes speaker labels and paragraph structure. SRT includes timecodes for video captioning.
50+ languages with automatic language detection. You do not need to select the language before the call. On multilingual calls, the primary language is used.
In your private workspace at recordmeeting.com, not in Google Drive. Each transcript is linked to the recording and summary. You can delete it at any time.
