How to Record a Webex Meeting in 2026
Webex includes recording for both hosts and participants, with cloud and local options depending on your plan. Here is how to record any Webex meeting in 2026, including how to get a transcript and where the file goes.
Recording as the Host
Webex hosts can record any meeting by clicking the Record button in the meeting controls. You can choose to save to Webex cloud storage or locally to your computer. Cloud recordings are processed after the meeting and include an automatic transcript. Local recordings save as an MP4 file immediately. Cloud recording is available on paid Webex plans. Free accounts can record locally only. After recording, the host receives an email with a link to the recording in the Webex cloud interface.
Recording as a Participant
Participants can record a Webex meeting only if the host grants them recording permission. The host must right-click the participant's name in the participants panel and choose Allow to Record. Once enabled, participants see the same Record button as the host. If permission is not granted, participants can still capture the call using a screen recording tool running outside of Webex, or by using a browser extension when accessing Webex through a web browser.
Getting a Transcript from Webex
Cloud recordings on paid Webex plans include an automatic transcript generated from the audio. To access it, go to the Webex cloud recording after the meeting ends and look for the Transcript tab. The transcript includes speaker labels and timestamps. You can download it as a VTT file or read it within the Webex interface. Transcript accuracy varies with audio quality and accent diversity, so review it for important meetings before sharing externally.
Accessing Recordings After the Meeting
Cloud recordings appear in your Webex site under the Recordings section of the Webex web portal. They are accessible by the host and anyone the host shares the link with. Local recordings are stored in the default recording folder on your computer, which can be changed in Webex preferences. Cloud recordings are typically retained for 30 days on standard plans before deletion. Download or export any recording you want to keep long-term before the retention period expires.
