Call Recording on iPhone in 2026
iPhone call recording changed significantly with iOS 18. Apple introduced a native call recording feature for phone calls, but for VoIP calls on Meet, Zoom, or Teams, dedicated apps still offer more control and automatic transcription. Here is how to record calls on iPhone in 2026.
iOS 18 Native Call Recording
iOS 18 added a built-in call recording button to the Phone app. Tap the Record button during a phone call to start. Both callers hear an announcement that the call is being recorded, satisfying consent requirements automatically. The recording saves to the Phone app and is also transcribed in the Notes app. This feature works for regular cellular calls only. It is not available for FaceTime, WhatsApp, Google Meet, or Zoom calls. If you are on iOS 18 and primarily record standard phone calls, this is the simplest option available.
Recording VoIP Calls on iPhone
For VoIP calls on Google Meet, Zoom, or Teams, use a screen recording approach. Go to Settings, Control Center, and add Screen Recording to your controls. During a Meet or Zoom call, swipe to open Control Center and long-press the Screen Record button. Enable your microphone before starting to capture your voice alongside system audio. The recording saves to the Photos app as a video file. This method works but requires manual steps before each call and does not produce an automatic transcript.
Third-Party Recording Apps
Several third-party apps on the App Store specialize in call recording with additional features. These apps typically create a conference bridge where you dial in from one line while the app records from another. This approach works for cellular calls and produces an audio file stored in the app. Some apps add automatic transcription. Review their pricing carefully as most charge per minute or via a monthly subscription. Confirm the app complies with call recording laws in your jurisdiction before using it for work calls.
Using a Meeting Recorder on Mobile
For video meeting calls on iPhone, opening Google Meet or Zoom in the Safari mobile browser and using a companion Chrome-based recording tool on your desktop is often more practical than recording from the phone itself. Alternatively, if you consistently join calls from your laptop, a browser extension handles recording automatically without any mobile-specific setup. The transcript and summary are available on any device after the call. This is the most reliable workflow for teams that split time between desktop and mobile.
