Zoom can generate transcripts for recorded calls, but the feature requires a paid plan and cloud recording. For teams on free Zoom accounts or local recording setups, third-party tools provide a reliable alternative. Here is every method available in 2026.
Zoom's Built-In Cloud Transcription
Zoom generates automatic transcripts for cloud recordings on Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. To access it, enable Audio Transcript in your Zoom settings under the Recording tab. After the call ends, Zoom processes the cloud recording and produces a VTT transcript file alongside the video. The transcript appears in the Recordings section of the Zoom web portal. Zoom transcript quality improves when participants use headset microphones, avoid joining from speakerphone, and mute when not speaking. In meetings with heavy background noise, transcripts become much harder to clean up even after the fact. Before recording an important Zoom call, do a 30-second audio check and confirm all participants can be heard clearly. Recordings with consistent audio quality save significant time during transcript review and reduce errors in action items extracted from the text.
Exporting and Sharing Zoom Transcripts
Cloud transcripts from Zoom can be downloaded as plain text or VTT files from the web portal.
