How to record a Slack huddle

Open Slack in Chrome, start a huddle and click the record button next to Share screen. Get a transcript with speakers and an AI summary when you leave.

Works with

Slack

A Slack huddle is live by design: once everyone leaves, the decisions made on the call exist only in people's memory. RecordMeeting adds a record button to the huddle window in Slack on the web. One click opens the usual Start Recording dialog, and when you leave the huddle you get a recording, a transcript with speakers and an AI summary in your workspace. No bot joins the huddle.

A record button inside the huddle

The button appears in Slack's toolbar right next to Share screen. Choose Audio only or Video, pick your microphone and press Start.

No bot in the huddle

Recording is private and participants are not alerted. Nobody has to approve a notetaker or watch a new participant join a quick call.

Everyone's voices, plus a transcript

The recording contains all voices plus your microphone. Video mode also captures the huddle window with participants and shared screens. Afterwards you get a transcript with speakers, an AI summary and a share link.

Step-by-step

Follow these steps

  1. 1

    Install the RecordMeeting Chrome extension

Open the Chrome Web Store, add RecordMeeting and sign in with Google. It is free to start and no credit card is required. The extension works in Google Chrome, so the huddle needs to run in a Chrome tab.

  2. 2

Open Slack in Chrome and start or join a huddle

Go to app.slack.com in Chrome and sign in to your workspace. Start a huddle from a channel or direct message, or join one that is already running. When the huddle window opens, a record button appears in its toolbar, right next to Share screen.

  3. 3

Click record and choose how to capture

Click the record button. The usual Start Recording dialog opens. Choose Audio only or Video, pick your microphone and press Start. The recording contains everyone's voices plus your microphone. Video mode also records the huddle window with participants and shared screens.

  4. 4

Leave the huddle and open your transcript

Leaving the huddle stops the recording. It uploads to your private workspace at recordmeeting.com, where you get the transcript with speakers, an AI summary and a link you can share with teammates who missed the call.

Good to know

Using the Slack desktop app?

A browser extension cannot see the Slack desktop app, so the record button only appears in Slack on the web. Open app.slack.com in Chrome and start or join the huddle there. Slack supports huddles in the browser, and the huddle window works the same way.
