Subtitle files rarely come out perfect. Auto-captions miss names and jargon, a line runs too long, two captions overlap, or a translation tool breaks the numbering. This editor opens an SRT or VTT file as a list of lines you can edit directly, checks the timing as you type, saves your work in the browser and exports a file that players and YouTube accept.

How it works

  1. Open your subtitle file

    Drop an SRT or VTT file, paste its text, or start from scratch. If you closed the page earlier, restore your last session.

  2. Fix the text and timing

    Edit any line in place. Find and replace fixes a name everywhere at once. Split long lines at the cursor, merge short ones, and insert or delete lines.

  3. Check the problems

    Lines that end before they start, overlap, are empty or run longer than 42 characters are marked. The problem count jumps to the first one.

  4. Download the file

    Download SRT, VTT or plain text. Lines are renumbered and the file keeps its original name.

Fix YouTube auto-caption mistakes

Auto-captions are good at clear speech and weak at names, product terms and punctuation. Download the captions from YouTube Studio as SRT, open them here, use find and replace for names that are wrong everywhere, fix the rest line by line, and upload the corrected file back to YouTube.

Split and merge lines without breaking the timing

Splitting a line at the cursor divides its time in proportion to the text, so both halves stay in sync. Merging joins a line with the next one and keeps the full time span. Numbers are rewritten on export, so you never have to renumber by hand.

Translate an SRT file without breaking timestamps

Chat assistants often renumber cues, merge lines or change timecodes when they translate a whole file. Keeping the timing here and replacing only the text line by line avoids that. Paste the translated sentence into each line and the timestamps stay exactly as they were.

Your work is saved in the browser

Every change is saved on your device as you type. If the tab closes, reopen the page and restore the session. Undo and redo cover every edit, including deleted lines.

How do I edit an SRT file online for free?

Can I edit subtitles on a Mac, iPhone or Android without installing anything?

Yes. The editor runs in any modern browser. On a phone each line becomes a card with the text first, so short fixes are easy.

How do I split a long subtitle into two?

Put the cursor where the new line should start and choose Split at cursor. The time is divided between the two lines in proportion to the text.

How do I fix the same mistake in every line?

Open Find and replace, type the wrong word and the correct one, and choose Replace all. The count shows how many lines changed.

What do the warnings mean?

Errors are lines that end before they start, empty lines and times in the wrong format; players may skip or reject them.

Warnings are overlaps and lines longer than 42 characters, which still work but are hard to read.

Why did my file save as .srt.txt in TextEdit or Notepad?

Text editors add .txt to files they do not recognise. The editor downloads a real .srt or .vtt file with the right extension and UTF-8 encoding.

Do I need to upload my video?

No. The editor works with the subtitle file alone, and nothing leaves your device.
